The Boathouse

The Boathouse was a commission for a family whose lake place in northern Wisconsin has been theirs for three generations. They didn't want it grand — just the white clapboard, the weathered dock, the particular stillness of that harbor at the hour when everyone's finished swimming for the day. I painted it as a small, familiar thing worth remembering exactly as it is.
