Superior, Cold Light

By late autumn, Superior turns a cold, almost metallic blue that I find more honest than its summer color. Superior, Cold Light is my attempt to paint the lake without romanticizing it — no golden hour, no warmth, just the clean, steel-toned clarity of a season closing down. I wanted the water to feel vast and indifferent, the way it actually does in November.
